In 1979, the
directors serving on the Metrocrest Hospital
Authority Board had the vision to establish a
collaborating philanthropic foundation,
Brookhaven Medical Center Foundation. The name
was changed in 1981 to Lutheran Medical System
Foundation and in 1985 it evolved into
Metrocrest Medical Foundation (MMF). The
Foundation’s purpose was to financially support
health care in the communities of Addison,
Carrollton, Coppell, Farmers Branch, The Colony
and pockets of Dallas with RHD Memorial Hospital Memorial Medical
Center the anchor non-profit hospital. The
Foundation strived to alleviate health related
issues of individuals in these communities who
were uninsured, ineligible to receive government
benefits or had no other means to access health
care.
Our Present:
From 1999 to late
2002, the Metrocrest Medical Foundation sat
dormant. In October, 2002, the eight steadfast
board members who remained in service to the
Foundation hired an executive director, recruited
new members, revised the bylaws and elected new
officers. The mission of those original “pioneers”
is now strengthened and the residents of the
communities are being served. Even though the
Foundation was not raising funds, it continued to
distribute funds to the Lifeline, D-Tag and
Prescription Programs as well as responsibly manage
its permanently restricted endowment funds.
Our Future:
No one knows
the future of the economic environment. We do
know the health care needs in our communities
continue to increase. With a professional
fundraising staff and a dedicated board of
directors, the Metrocrest Medical Foundation
will renew old friendships and build new
relationships. The Foundation holds pride in
providing our donors giving opportunities that
parallel their giving wishes. By partnering the
funds raised with the health care visions of the
Metrocrest Hospital Authority, the Foundation
will achieve its mission which benefits every
family who lives in our communities.
